Gustavo Brinholi and Luiz H. Marques met in March 2017, in the Santa Teresa neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. The meeting occurred because of a film work in which both were participating: Brinholi as a musician and Marques as a cinematographer. A new meeting between the two would take place in Rome, in October of the same year, when Gustavo Brinholi was invited to accompany the Humanae Vitae Congress - 50 years later, to conduct interviews with some of the participants in order to create a publicity video for the 2018 March for Life. Gustavo does not hesitate to call Luiz Henrique Marques to do the work with him.

Below is Gustavo Brinholi's statement to the Congress "Humanae Vitae, the audacity of an encyclical on sexuality and procreation."

In 2017 I was called to make a publicity video for the March for Life in Rome, which would be held in May 2018. To make it, I was to interview participants and some university students who were present at the Humanae Vitae - 50 Years After Convention at the Angelicum in Rome. At that time I was on a journey back to the Catholic faith, which had begun before my marriage in May 2017. I did not belong to any "Pro Life" association and this whole universe was, to be honest, quite unknown to me.

So I went, together with my colleague Luiz Henrique Marques, to carry out this work. Two months before the Humanae Vitae Convention, I accompanied my wife for the first time to a gynecological examination. During the ultrasound, the doctor told us that gestation was delayed and there was a high probability of a miscarriage in the days to follow. In those days, hope brought us closer together: we cried together, we prayed together. Nature took its course and unlike our expectations our first children -- it was a twin pregnancy -- went to heaven even before we gave each other our little hands.

The experiences of the preceding months made me arrive in Rome highly sensitized to the issues of Humanae Vitae. The conferences and the environment filled with scientists, priests, believers and, above all, so many young people, kindled in me the desire to speak about that event and about the Humanae Vitae Encyclical to the whole world. Jean Marie La Mene's beautiful talk introduced me to a beautiful bioethical poetic verse by Dr. Jerome Lejeune:

"Contraception is making love without making a child -.

Artificial insemination is making a child without making love -.

Abortion is unmaking a baby.

Pornography is unmaking love.

All these practices, to varying degrees, are incompatible with natural law."

Using the words of Jean Marie Le Mené during that 2017 Conference, "this French geneticist had the gift of making the most complex and sensitive issues clear and accessible to all."

During that October weekend at the Angelicum, through the testimony of Mr. Le Mené and so many others, God called me to put into practice my office as an artist: to seek Beauty that reflects Truth. And so I decided to make a Documentary film that would collect life stories that illustrate the themes of this precious Encyclical. Luiz Henrique Marques agreed to start this journey that lasted from January 2018 to January 2020, when we finally made the Avant Premiere of the Film during the March for Life in Washington D.C. in the United States.

Today, together with the many people who were also present at that 2017 Convention, I invite you to watch our Film. The Film is our small testimony of changing our lives after attending a Convention like this, where we work with joy to spread Beauty and Truth in the world.

It is an independent film, made with the indispensable contribution of Providence, which introduced us to the interviewees and spiritual and material supporters. About 100,000 people have watched it all over the world.

I ask you to take it around again: to your parishes, universities, your homes.

Since I started the film, my two children David and Elizabeth have been born. And at the end of 2019, when we were about to finalize the first version of the Film, Luiz H, Marques, found out that his wife was finally pregnant, after a wait of 5 years. Their daughter is now 4 years old.
